General information

When to use Ercal?

Use Ercal for biological control of greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) and tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) in the second and third larval stage. Use Ercal preventatively and at the first sign of pest presence.

How does Ercal work?

Adult female parasitic wasps parasitize the second and third larval stage of the whitefly. Additionally, host feeding also occurs.

How to use Ercal

Application Ercal

  • Carefully open package inside the greenhouse
  • Bend and tear off the strips opposite from the mounting hole
  • Suspend the cards in the crop, if possible approximately 75 cm/29.5 in. under the plant head
  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Do not touch the pupae

Best working conditions Ercal

Optimal working conditions for Ercal require a minimum of 24 hour average greenhouse temperature of at least 20°C/68°F. However, successful introduction is possible at lower temperatures. Eretmocerus eremicus also stays active at temperatures above 30°C/86°F.

Biological beneficials have a very short life expectancy and therefore need to be introduced into the crop as soon as possible after receipt. Failure to do so can have a negative impact on their quality. In case you do need to store Ercal, please follow the instructions below. Shale Peak Horticulture, LLC is not liable for any loss of quality if the product is stored for longer and/or under different conditions than recommended.

  • Storage after receipt: 1-2 days
  • Storage temperature: 8-10°C/47-50°F
